· Is THE unifying voice of Virginia motorcyclists
· In the U.S.A. since 1975, works successfully for motorcyclists’ freedom and safety
· Accepts all motorcyclists, passengers and non-riders interested in freedom
· Legislative actions include:
o Working with various motorcyclists’ associations to monitor state and federal regulation and legislation
o Promoting informed, favorable legislation, but rallying intensively against unfair and irresponsible legislation and regulation
o Maintaining a solid rapport with many Virginia and Washington legislators; helping them develop realistic legislation
o Providing motorcycle information to state and local officials
o Winning respect throughout the state for responsible leadership and solid information.
· We are an organization, not a club; does not and will not conflict with any other membership
· Has no mandatory functions or activities
· Has similar organizations in most states, but no national office dictating our actions
· Public image and education actions include:
o Promoting rider training and safety programs
o Sponsoring charitable activities
o Any action which will improve the public image of motorcyclists
o Encouraging and working toward equitable insurance treatment for motorcyclists
o Activities to encourage and assure personal responsibility, freedom, enjoyment and safety
o Promoting voter registration and community involvement
ABATE of Virginia, Inc. is a state motorcyclist rights organization dedicated to responsible legislation for motorcyclists and all motorists. ABATE is a legislative/educational organization which was incorporated in Virginia in 1985. There are state organizations established in most of the United States. We are advocates of uniform licensing procedures and training & awareness programs. We are NOT against the wearing of helmets. Our membership covers the entire spectrum of society.
We have assisted in raising funds for the needy. Local chapters throughout the state are doing community service events. We are changing the "biker image" and are the unifying voice for the 220,000+ motorcyclists in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are an income tax exempt organization, registered with the State Corporation Commission, and are dedicated to the FREEDOM OF THE ROAD.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
YOU, as an individual, can help in our fight to amend or repeal anti-motorcycle legislation in Virginia and in the United States of America. The majority of the people making laws know little or nothing about motorcycles or motorcyclists. We need to unite with common goals and educate our lawmakers from a position of strength in a professional and dignified manner.
